Setting Fitness Goals Is Important to Me Because….

Setting fitness goals is important to me because it’s hard to create any type of lifestyle habit without a compelling reason for it. I prioritize exercise because mobility and longevity are important to me and I want to be as active as I can, for as long as possible. If I forget my “why?” there are a gazillion other things that can overrun my schedule and take priority; even a Netflix binge.

While exercise is a priority, motivation ain’t always easy. Just because I’ve got a small Pilates home studio doesn’t mean I’m always eager to jump on my equipment and get my sweat on. I don’t even get hyped until I’m about 5min into my workout. Until then, the couch presents an effortless feel-good opportunity. Plus snacks! So because I know myself well, I’ve budgeted time and money into my Pilates training. My workouts are already embedded into my schedule in the form of standing Private Pilates lessons and a group class. They’re non-negotiable items on my to-do list, even when the couch seems more enticing.

I specifically choose Pilates because its methodology aligns with my fitness goals and I enjoy it. Every. Single. Workout. Even on days when “lazy” feels like a more enticing option. And because Classical Pilates is taught progressively and systematically it’s easy to track my progress. The more I experience progress the more confidence it builds which motivates me to continue training consistently. It keeps my body, mind, and spirit jonesing for more which keeps me closer to my fitness goals.

S.I.T. With Yourself in April

This month’s #soakedinthought journaling prompts are dedicated to body confidence and fitness as a lifestyle. As we move into Spring and the fitness industry ramps up its messaging about getting “in shape” for Summer, I hope you’ll sit with yourself to figure out what your body, mind, and spirit need to feel healthy, fit, and happy – without all the external voices.
